Website and Publication System
We designed the website and an extensive publication system for Lucas Education Research (LER), a division of the George Lucas Educational Foundation that focuses on the design and evaluation of innovative practices in K–12 schools. LER identifies strategic collaborations with university-based researchers, educational research firms, and like-minded non-profits to establish strong partnerships with districts, schools, and teachers. In this specific project we focused on the project-based learning approach.

Project-based learning can bring transformative change. The website communicates LER’s research approach that centers on teachers’ needs and their involvement in classroom and community settings.
On the home page, LER asks questions and provides answers regarding authentic learning experiences through project-based learning.
The library of PBL-centered white papers and research briefs can be filtered using relevant topics and tags.

Publication System
This publication system included a series of white papers and research briefs that provided an in-depth examination of the project-based learning (PBL), an inquiry-based learning approach in which students explore real-world problems through individual and group projects.
The publications’ design visually integrated with the website. An interactive digital PDF toolkit provided easy access to all publications, videos, curricula, and press releases.
We designed visual essay spreads to better explain the PBL teaching approach. In this example the teacher engaged the students by asking, “How can you successfully land a rover on Mars?”
We also designed a series of research briefs that followed the established visual and conceptual direction.
The interactive digital PDF toolkit provided users easy access to the publications and videos, the website, and other supporting materials.
